Politickin - Michelle Obama Kicks Off The Democratic Convention

Tonight, be sure your TV's are turned to any news channel at 10 PM EST - I'll be watchin ABC with my faves, Diane Sawyer, Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopolous - to watch the very first Black woman and future first lady, Michelle Obama tells us all why her husband, Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States. This morning I watched clips of her, her mother, and daughters get off of a private jet after landing in Denver. I kept thinking, I know she's used to all of this already but WOW, Michelle Obama is kickin off the Democratic Convention. Black women all over the world are going to be listening intently, in admiration and awe, while dying to have whatever fabulous ensemble she's been styled in, and thanking her over and over again for showing the world who black women are, what we can achieve, and how and why we LOVE our black men. Black men are going to be watching her with pride, thinking how beautiful, articulate, and passionate she is and how fortunate Barack is to have this extraordinary and beyond special woman at his side. They will see how black beauty can be natural and real and aspire to reach for the unreachable, to achieve the impossible, to be whoever they were told they couldn't be and have a beautiful Black woman by their sides while they do it all. I can't even imagine how Michelle is feeling today. Do her daughters, who have grown accustomed to private jets and security and the hoopla, really understand the history being made by their parents? Do we all understand how each and every word Michelle utters will be scrutinized, analyzed and nit-picked to no end by all of their detractors? More importantly, do we know that that doesn't matter and neither Barack or Michelle are worried about what the haters say. They know what they are setting out to do, what they have to accomplish, and I for one, know that Michelle's speech tonight is only going to confirm for all of us why they both belong in the White House.
