Why Everyone Loves A School Play....

No school I've ever gone to would have even attempted to put on "Peter Pan". Figuring out how to make people fly and keep the set in tact would have just been way too much. This is why we stuck to just doing "Fame," over and over again.

And I always love the crying babies and the people who talk throughout the entire play. That is how you know you are officially at a school play. Fun times.

Today Is World AIDS Day

The hottttness that is Maxwell says Walk in AIDs patient's shoes....

Among the many blessings I've encountered in several years in the music business is the ability to use my voice to raise awareness for issues and to help others.

My greatest joy is in expressing compassion for others. It's so important to take time away from your own circumstances and try to walk in someone else's shoes or see the world through someone else's eyes.

As part of CNN's Heroes event last week, I got to see some of the most supreme examples of this from around the world. Tuesday is World AIDS Day, and I encourage all of us to put ourselves in the shoes of those battling this disease and especially consider some of the parts of our global community that are hardest hit.

Consider this: in many countries in Africa, AIDS is the leading cause of death. This is a preventable, treatable disease, but still of the 33 million people living with this disease globally, 22 million are in Africa, and it continues to kill 3,800 people a day on that continent. But the more important thing we should consider is that this is not hopeless. There is something that can be done, and there is a way to do it.

With two pills a day that cost as little as 40 cents, a person dying in Africa from complications from AIDS can be raised from near death and given a renewed chance at life. This transformation is called the Lazarus Effect.

These two antiretroviral (ARV) pills a day are more than just medicine. They are a person's chance to get up on their feet, go to school or go to work and contribute to their communities. This treatment helps people reach their full potential and allows communities and countries to create a future.

The issue now is how do we get this medicine to all who need it. When most of the people in these locations make less than a dollar a day, 40 cents is not easy to come by. And the trained medical staff and facilities are not abundant.

This is where (RED) and the Global Fund come in and why I tip my hat to U2's lead singer, Bono, and others like him who look outside themselves to see where there are problems in the world and how they can make a difference.

(RED) works with the hottest brands, such as Armani, Gap, Apple and Converse, to make unusual (PRODUCT) RED-branded products and direct up to 50 percent of their gross profits to the Global Fund to invest in African AIDS programs, with a focus on the health of women and children.

Since (PRODUCT) RED launched in 2006, it has generated about $140 million for the Global Fund. This money has been generated simply by giving shoppers a choice and asking them to choose (RED), at no cost to them. It's millions of small choices around the world adding up to big change.

This $140 million flows directly to AIDS programs in Rwanda, Ghana, Lesotho and Swaziland, the country with the world's highest HIV infection rate. It supports programs that not only provide ARV treatment free of charge, but creates access to testing and counseling and provides treatment to HIV-positive pregnant women to help ensure their babies are born healthy. These programs give people a chance for productive lives and children a chance to start life on the right foot.

This one small thing reverberates a cause with effects greater than humanly imaginable -- you should choose (RED), but there are so many other ways to give as well: educating ourselves about the issue, spreading the word or getting involved in whatever seems most personal to each of us. But what is most important is keeping in mind that there are worlds out there beyond our own and there is so much that can be done if we take a moment to walk in someone else's shoes.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Maxwell.

Love him.

My President Won The Nobel Peace Prize

Mkay, excuse my MIA situation...I've been under the weather. I hate that term..."under the weather". What da hell does that mean actually? I was under rain? I was under hail? I normally would never say that, but for some reason, I just typed it. Odd. Goodness, where are my pills? I've been sick and I'm just coming back to life...and still I rise.

Anyhoo...while in my coma, I noticed I haven't missed much. Is it just me or is shit just extra boring right now? It might just be me, as per always. I can't seem to care about a whole lot. It's fine.

With the little bit of strength I have, I just wanted to tell my president, Barack Obama, that I love him and I am so proud of him for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. While we both know you have so much more work to do, what you have accomplished thus far in your life as a man and as president makes you worthy. Those who understand that what you are trying to accomplish, not only in this country but throughout the world, is not rocket science, rather common sense and human understanding, awarded you properly. Let the ignorant ass haters hate. You just smile and nod as you board Air Force One holding your prize. Congrats boo! Luh u, mean it!

And on that note, I hope you all have a great weekend...and I'll leave you with two videos that actually kept my interest. Two different kinds of oh.wow. And yes, I'm an ignorant ass for including these videos in a post about my president winning the nobel peace prize but I had to get it all in one post cuz I'm done and I can't. Enjoy!

Super Group - Tamia, Kelly Price, and Deborah

Say muthafluffin word?!!! Three of the best singers - three of my absolute FAVORITE singers (I Looooooooooove Tamia) - are reuniting to form a super group!!!! Please excuse my squeals of excitement...this is seriously like the best news ever. I mean we can all rejoice that Whitney is back, but we're all honest enough to know that she got about two more albums and some SERIOUS vocal lessons to go before she becomes WHITNEY one more gin. But there really isn't anybody (other than the fierce one...Bey) that is really sangin these days and making me play their albums on repeat like I used to do back in the day.

And this new comes after watching Real Housewives of Atlanta last night and being PISSED that Kim, Kandi and those producers are really showing the world that talent means absolutely nothing and anybody can be fuckin Tardy for the Party. UGH!!! Kim is more tone deaf than a deaf glee club with cochlear implants. Yet Kandi has stated that she can make "anybody hot" and has this silly bitch thinkin she's gonna be a hit. And knowin our tardy for the party society, she will be.

But I digress....real singers Tamia, Kelly Price, and Nobody's Supposed to Be Here Deborah Cox are power group, for right now called "TDK" and their album is called "The Queen Project" and the first single is called "Queen". I can already feel my goose bumps....

Am I the only one who is beyond ready to hear TDK???!!! Can you imagine their live show?!!

To read more about how the group came together click: Never Tardy For The Party.

AMAZING Michael Jackson Tribute

This Yale University Junior came up with the MOST AMAZING MJ tribute ever! First of all, he can actually sing, but even more than that, he put together a reedicuslously creative tribute with an overlay of so many songs and he sounds like a friggin GLEE club! The best part is that it's all just him!! He somehow managed to sing all the parts, put it all together, and then make a video where there are like 10 versions of him on stage.

Dare I say...genius.

Kelly Is Finally On Top!

Even if she had to release singles in Lebanon to get there. Kelly is looking beyond gorgeous and telling USA Today that she's FINALLY at a place in her life where she feels empowered and fearless.

Seems she spent much of her time feeling complacent and not believing in her own talent and capabilities. And who can blame her? When you spend your entire life/career walkin in the shadows on that bad B and being managed by (your real father who won't claim you) the father of the bad B who only has her best interest in mind...feeling like you can't make it on your own sounds about right.

But now that Kelly left da Knowleseses, got new people, is experimenting with new music, and embracing the love from overseas she is fulfilled, happy, successful and is ready to make it do wut it do.

I for one, am very happy for her. Yay Kelly Ro!

All Hail The Queen: Beyonce

Mkay, so I know I talk shit about Yonce. I know this. BUT ya'll do know that as much as I hate on her, I love her, and I always give props where props are due. I had the pleasure and the privilege to experience Beyonce live at her "I Am..." concert and seriously, I was beyond entertained.

What amazes me and the reason she really is the best doin it (and maybe to ever do it as it pertains to female performers), is cuz SHE IS SINGING!!! She is singing live and she sounds BETTER than she sounds on her damn CDs. She KILLS it!!!! She looks fabulous, she is very engaged with the audience, her band is sick, her dancers are hot (two of the male dancers bodies were reeee-dickkkk-uloussssss!), her back up singers - Tha Mamas - are curvy, sexaay, and sangin, and again, Yonce sounds AMAZING.

She manages to sing like er'song she's ever done, including Destiny's Child stuff, she flips and flies in the air, she moves the show to the middle of the arena so er'body gets to see her even better, she sang 'Say My Name' to some guy named Jeff, gave him one of her sweat rags and made his life (you know he's jerkin off to that towel right now), she included the cutest home videos of her as little girl, and you know that she gave over 200% to us. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. If I could, I'd tell her thanks for making my way too expensive ticket more than worth it.

I also LOVED snappin for each an'er kid that was losin their mind. My two faves were this pair of how you doins....one was very small and petite and had on Dereon head to toe, a pink Dereon very, very, very, tight shirt, skinny jeans, and wedges, with some special Yonce earrings. I couldn't believe he didn't have on a Sasha Fierce weave to complete the look but he just rocked a low cesar. The other was taller, a whole lot more chubbier (actually he was just fat), and had on the same Dereon very, very, very tight shirt but it was blue, some knee-length cut off Dereon shorts, and sneakers with some Chanel earrings and bracelets going all the way up both arms. I saw them as we were leaving and they were overwhelmed by what a fabulous show Yonce put on and they were buying a program. They couldn't even move while lookin at the program. Watchin a gay love Yonce is like watchin unicorns fly over rainbows. I could watch it all day.

Now listen, Yonce is the undisputed Queen and no one can touch her BUT just cuz she puts on the best show ever don't think I won't still talk about her...for example, while we waited for her to come out they played music by Solange, Michelle, Destiny's Child, and some other people...Kelly got a number one song right now. Just cuz she chose to move on and allow new people in her life, why she can't get a lil support? Ain't she part of the reason Yonce can even do this damn show? And I will still talk about those ugly ass House of Dereon clothes and when her nappy edges are hangin out her lace front. Yes, yes I will.

Luh u Yonce, and I mean it!

I Am....a fan.

Good Work Outta You Tyler Perry....

I was told that one of these children, a seven year old, asked her mother if she was “too black to be in a pool.” How do you answer that? Again, it broke my heart and I wanted to do something, and I feel like you all would want to do something, too. So what I did was on Aug 1st thru 3rd, I’m sending these kids to Disney World, and then to a Disney water park. I want them to know that for every act of evil that a few people will throw at you, there are millions more who will do something kind for them. This is all about the kids.

This made me so angry.

Since Michael Jackson died I have not watched the news. I have just been so disgusted at how the mainstream media has riddled this family with disrespect, and no matter what anyone, you or I included, might have thought of him, the truth of the matter is

-the man was still a human being and his kids and family deserve some privacy and space. And I know that I’m not the only one that feels this way, so I purposely kept the TV off. Anyway, I was walking through the house, and I don’t know how this TV was on, but I saw a little boy on the news crying his eyes out. So I turned it up. Here is this kid talking about being kicked out of the Valley Swim Club outside Philadelphia because he was black. Did you hear me? I said, “No way, this can’t be! It’s 2009. I don’t believe this!” But, I know it happens even in this year of Obama.

As I listened to the story, the anchorperson went on to talk about a woman named Althea Wright. This young lady started a non-profit called Creative Steps to help inner-city children. And apparently she had booked the Valley Swim Club’s pool and paid for it to be used by the children throughout the summer. As we all know, this is such a great thing. During the summer our kids can get into a lot of trouble if they don’t have something creative to do. Anyway, as the story went on, I was shocked to find out that it wasn’t just him but 65 children in all, black and Hispanic kids, that were kicked out of the pool. You should Google this story and read it online for yourself. It’s crazy! I went from being mad to being furious.

The news reporter went on to say that the president of the club and its members said, and I quote, “We don’t want to change the complexion of our club.” The president refunded the money of the children and asked them not to come back. WHAT?! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I said I have to do something for these children. I can’t let them think that they are inferior because of the color of their skin. Then that night I saw the president of the Valley Swim Club on the news again saying that he misspoke and that it was a safety issue and the club wasn’t able to accommodate so many children. But the children themselves reportedly said that members were taking their kids out of the pool, and that they were saying things like, “Why are they here?” and “They’re black,” even insinuating that these kids would steal or maybe hurt their children.

Now get this. A few days later I catch the story again on CNN. This time the club was inviting the kids to come and swim. WHAT?! I’m confused. If you refunded the money because there was not enough room in the pool and it was a safety issue then why are you asking the same 65 kids to come back?

This is awful, and for anyone that has grown up in the inner-city, you know that one small act of kindness can change your life. These kids see the images of President Obama on TV and then they see the drug dealers and thugs on the corner. Which do you think is more their reality? One act of kindness, one person telling them that they are special, one moment of encouragement can make them move mountains. I know it to be true because I was one of them. They don’t need to be called names and be told that they are less than, because of the color of their skin or because of where they come from.

That’s why I’m telling you this. Since you all have put me in the position to be able to do something I feel like by me doing this we are all doing it together. This is all about the kids. So, thank you for letting me do this. Thank you so much. And do me a favor please. When you see these kids coming through the airport, (I’m sure you won’t be able to miss them. I imagine they are going to be super excited) when you see them in the park and in the hotel, let’s show them a whole lot of love and respect. Show them that they are just as good as anyone else. And show them that they can do or be anything they want to be no matter what anyone says!

Thanks,

Tyler Perry

Oprah's pay it forward done certainly rubbed off on Madea. Love it!

Go GLAAD!!!!

I didn't plan on sayin anything about this Perez Hilton vs. Black Eye Peas bull shizz. Perez is obviously a drama queen and one of the Twats who Tweet. After supposedly catchin a beat down by Will.I.Am of the Peas, he goes on Twitter. I won't even go there....but ya'll know that if he was really as fucked up as he says he was "I thought my eye was gonna pop out and I was bleeding!" then the last thing he would have thought about was Twatting on Twitter. But those of us who feed on public validation - even in the "worst" of times - do such shizz. It's the era we live in. Why can't I get used to it?

The point of this post is that the reason Perez caught a left hook was because he called Will a faggot. On his blog video he says: "I don't need to respect you, and you're a fag. You're gay, and stop being such a faggot." Ummmmmm, altho violence is never the answer (scuse me as try to be politically correct...or something), you call somebody a faggot and disrespect people expect to get your ass kicked Bitch.

So GLAAD (The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) released this statement:

"These are vulgar anti-gay slurs that feed a climate of hatred and intolerance toward our community," Rashad Robinson, senior director of Media Programs at GLAAD, said in a statement issued to E! "For someone in our own community to use it to attack another person by saying that it is 'The worst possible thing that thug would ever want to hear' is incredibly dangerous. It legitimizes use of a slur that is often linked to violence against our community. And it sends a message that it is OK to attempt to dehumanize people by exploiting anti-gay attitudes."

I am really happy about this because seriously, if Will had been the one to call Perez a faggot the whole world would take to the streets burning Black Eye Peas cds, protesting, and figuring out a way to put him jail for slander. Ok maybe not the whole world, but you know it would be waaaaay out of control and ridiculous.

Good work out you GLAAD!

Wanda Sykes is A Mommy...And She's Funny As Hell!

Congrats go out to Wanda Sykes and her wife, Alex, for giving birth to twins!! They are now parents to a baby girl, named Olivia Lou and baby boy, named Lucas Claude. Baby and mommies are happy and healthy.

And since we're talkin bout Wanda, can we talk about why people - and by people I mean jackasses - are still talkin shizz bout her speech during the Presidential Roast. Nothing needs to be said except she is funny as all hell! My favorite part is when she said:

“..and governer Palin she’s not here tonight. She pulled out at the last minute. Somebody needs to tell her, that’s not how you practice abstinence.”

"...[and First Lady Michelle Obama] You over in London touching the Queen. You can’t do that. You over there patting her on the back like she just slid in to home plate.”

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!! Love it. But jackasses are mad cuz she talked about Rush Limbaugh. She took it there, yes BUT it wouldn't be funny if it weren't TRUE!

She said: "Rush Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails, so you’re saying, ‘I hope America fails’, you’re, like, ‘I dont care about people losing their homes, their jobs, our soldiers in Iraq’. He just wants the country to fail. To me, that’s treason. He’s not saying anything different than what Osama bin Laden is saying. You know, you might want to look into this, sir, because I think maybe Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker, but he was so strung out on Oxycontin, he missed his flight. *mocking Limbaugh* “I hope this country fails”. I hope his Kidney fails.”

I know that's right Wanda. Er'body in the audience starts laughin and then realizes what she says and tries to simma down on the laughin. Wanda says, but you're laughin inside tho. Padma Lakshmi ain't care, you see her crackin up. That woulda been me laughin my ass off, damn near rollin on the floor in my gown. Good work outta you Wanda!
