Mama I Want To Sing

I don't know about ya'll but Mama I Want to Sing was my FAVORITE play and I have seen it more times than I can count and would always leave the theater, well singing....I can remember watching the original Doris Winter (the girl who wants to sing), who was played by Desiree Coleman (and she was 17 years old at the time and I was 6 or 7 when I first saw the play), and just being in utter awe at how pretty she was and wishing that I would grow up and be able to sing....and not just sing, but SANG, just like Doris. My mother bought me the album and I would listen to it constantly....my favorite song was the title song which was a duet sung by Doris and her mother and they would go back and forth singing about why Doris wants to sing and why her mother didn't want her to sing. And of course I still know all the words and am having a difficult time imagining Ciara (yes, my goodies CiCi) singing that song like how its supposed to be sung.... This is where my reminiscing comes from....a fake ass trailer has been released for the movie version of Mama I Want to Sing which stars Ciara as the lead....I'm just not sure she can pull this off. I mean the girl singing in the background in the fake trailer doesn't even sound like Ciara. Ah but anyway, June 2008, we'll get to see for ourselves.
