The first-ever Broadway revival of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf will star India Arie. The show is being produced by Whoopi Goldberg and Tony winner Hinton Battle will choreograph the show. India is the first person cast in the show, which has scheduled a mid-July preview and early-August opening. For those of you not familiar....For Colored Girls was written by Ntozake Shange and is referred to as a Choreopoem. It is a look into the various roles 'colored' women play and what makes 'colored' women special and how we claim our identities day in and day out -- through hardship, love, hurt, pain etc. The woman are portrayed by the colors of the rainbow. I would LOVE to see this and I'm happy for India and I'm glad Whoopi attached herself to this project. It should be amazing. |
