EW.com has an interesting interview with Grey's Anatomy namesake Meredith Grey...but I guess the interview is really with Ellen Pompeo who plays Mer. Ew, I called her Mer...I don't like that. Her name is Meredith. Maybe they should call her Merey...like Mary but with some Es. OK I'm totally digressing.
Anyway, so I thought some of my fellow TV-Nistas and Grey's fanatics...(speaking of Grey's fans...did I ever tall ya'll the story about my friend's friend who tried to act like she was a Grey's fan and then when we were watching it, the dumb bitch only knew like one person's name on the show and was asking mad questions interrupting my show! I wanted to kick that bitch right in her front left incisor but since she was my friend's friend I tried to be nice. I told my friend that silly wench is no longer allowed in my presence)...would be interested in what Ellen had to say about the future of Grey's and what she thinks about playing Mer. I mean, Meredith.
How did you feel about Mer-Der getting back together? I told her to please make it be in a way that makes sense. Don't put us together because the fans want it: so — poof! — we're together. Please make it make sense. I would have preferred that we really stayed apart for a while and then slowly got back together. I just worry how realistic is it after all of the mess.
How had you been feeling about the relationship? You can't really judge characters, because that's when it gets really hard to play them. But sometimes Meredith has made choices and I'm like, Why would she do this? Why would she continue to keep going back to him after that? You gotta try to find a way to do it, but it's not always easy. I would never let a man treat me that way.
I find this VERY interesting because I personally feel like Meredith is the one who treats McDreamy like shit and can't get her mind right. Now granted, he did kind of play her to the left when Addison came back in the picture but he was kinda sort of obligated in that she was his wife and for those of ya'll who believe in marriage, isn't it about working it out thru the thick and thin and all that jazz? But now that I think about it....I guess she does have reason to be salty and prolly does have reason to be the jackass that she has been lately. He only added to her trust and abandonment issues but still, he picked her in the end. You know what...my problem might be that McDreamy is just way hotter than Meredith so in my brain I'm like, she should be thrilled that guy wants her. Hmmmmmm, I think I might have had a Mer/Der breakthrough. I'll think on it.
When did you start to feel that Mer-Der was becoming repetitive? Last season. Season 3 is when the show really started to get a little unfocused with crazy things like Meredith's [failed] suicide, and then George and Izzie. It just sort of seemed like it was all over the place, which it kind of was. I know Shonda was writing Private Practice and her attention was diverted.
How did you feel about George and Izzie? I love Katie [Heigl] and T.R. [Knight] so much that I didn't really like seeing them together. That's like my brother and my sister kissing. I don't want to see my brother and sister kiss! I think it was a little ratings stunt.
She is so right! Season 3 was all over the place, altho I loved her fake suicide because it allowed McDreamy to save her. (OMG, I really might have damsel in distress/male rescue issues...this is why I love TV. I literally live vicariously through this people because I'll be damned if I try to fake kill myself over some guy, especially not in no cold ass river...my hair.) But besides that, Izzie and George together was the fuckin worst! That relationship made NO sense....altho the episode when Izzie thought Callie O'Malley was gonna beat her ass was hilarious. I really wanted Callie to knock that bitch's block off! And Shonda did have some extra stuff going on tryna do too much....I think the writer's strike was what everybody needed.
How did [Grey's Anatomy creator] Shonda Rhimes tell you that Meredith and Derek were getting back together? I came in a couple weeks before we were going to go back to work and she invited me in to talk. She pretty much started off by saying she had time over the break to watch the entire series, saw where it started and where it went and where it needs to go now. It helped her get some perspective.
Thank goodness. This means that Grey's is about to get real good again! I'm excited!
On one last note...was Dr. Alex Karev not the hottest piece of man beef on last week's show?! I'm loving the facial scruff...and you know I have weak spot for the underdog.
Keep watchin!
